Description
Graduate students can select one of the following English Studies programmes on MA level:
- English Translation Studies
- English Studies: Language–Culture–Literature
- English Studies: Editing and Publishing
The English Translation Studies programme offers unique specialisation courses which target latest developments in translation and interpreting skills and theory. Apart from attending programme-specific classes, students will participate in language-study seminars (in literature, culture and linguistics), practical English courses, business English classes and translation laboratories. The programme is addressed to both Polish and non-Polish undergraduates. Each student can complete an additional separate programme (partly in Polish), which offers teaching qualifications valid in Polish schools (primary, secondary and high levels of education).
On completion of the two-year-long study programme, the student will obtain an MA diploma and will have gained thorough knowledge and skills within the specialisation field. The graduate will have productive skills at C1+ level in compliance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Skills, knowledge and social competence acquired will be an asset in such sectors as translation and interpreting, copy-editing, tourism, corporate services, public relations, marketing, advertising, business communication. The student may also choose to continue English studies in the PhD programme.
Admission rules
The following candidates can apply:
1. Holders of the BA degree in English studies (or equivalent studies)
2. Holders of the BA degree in a field of study which includes English studies
3. Holders of the BA degree in other fields of study
Candidates are qualified on the basis of the entrance interview. The oral exam is conducted in English and it aims to verify the candidate’s language competence, ability to interpret texts and knowledge of culture-related topics. It consists of two components:
a conversation with the examination committee and a candidate-provided summary of a short text on general issues (if the text is in Polish, it should be summarised in English; if the text is in English, it should be summarised in Polish). The result will be given on a scale from 0 to 100 points; the passing result is at least 40 points.
